‘THE BELLE OF NEW YORK'
By its revival in Wellington by a special J. C. Williamson company, the world's favourite musical comedy, "The Belle, of New York,” still demonstrates that it is as powerful an attraction to-day as it was thirty odd years ago. Nor is it to ba wondered that the Grand Opera House is packed nightly with enthusiastic audiences to witness a production presented on such a magnificent scale. The colour of the piece . is striking in the extreme, but that is but one of its many splendid attributes. Ths acting throughout is superb, while the dancing ensembles, • and, in particular, tlie solo tap numbers Fy Jim Gerald and Connie Hobbs, are ■as pleasing as anything seen in Wellington for many a long day. So well known are the musical numbers that it. would be futile to dilate at length upon them, but it Is sufficient to say that each and every one Is brought back with a sparkle and freshness that i« quite exhilarating.
