LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Attempt at Abolition PROGRESS OF BILL Legal Battle Probable LANG WASTING TIME ttj Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Rec. December 10, 10 p.m.) Sydney, December 10. It Is expected that the first shot in the legal battle over the Government’s move to abolish the Legislative Council will be fired this week, as the anti-abolition-ists Intend to approach the Supreme Court as soon as the Bill passes the Assembly, They will seek to obtain an injunction to restrain the President from presenting the measure for Royal assent. n ~ Yesterday the Legislative Council passed the Bill for the abolition of that Chamber. Members condemned the Government for wasting time trying to abolish the Council when its first duty was to honour the promise to the vast army of unemployed. The Bill was read a first time in the Legislative Assembly.
