BROOKLYN PROGRESS
New Tennis Courts IMPROVING THE LIBRARY “I think you will agree with me that Brooklyn is very badly off in the matter of tennis courts,” said Mr. J. I. Goldsmith, at the annual meeting of the Brooklyn Electors’ Association last evening. Six new courts would be laid down on the Washington Avenue side of Brooklyn School. “When the ground is levelled and the courts laid down, they would be a very great asset to the people of Brooklyn,” he said. Concerning the library, Mr. G. W. Slade said that he had been in communication with officials of the City Council, who wanted the assistance of the association. The library did not pay, and was not likely to pay, part residence and part library, as it was. They agreed that the library could be imprpved. He suggested that it should be moved to the corner of Jefferson Street, opposite the post office. It was decided to recommend that the incoming committee draw the attention of the libraries’ committee of the City Council to the library, and suggest that a more adequate site be found. “The City Council had drawn up a set of plans, but they were too elaborate for the funds which we had,” said Mr. J. I. Goldsmith, when dealing with the memorial pillars. “They are now drawing up another set of plans, which we will have in a week or two.” The election of officers resulted as follow:—President, Mr. Graham; vice-presi-dent, Mr. J. I. Goldsmith: secretary, Mr. J. Purvis; treasurer. Captain Nicholson; committee. Messrs. G. W. Slade. H. R. Wright, H. Rubenstein. G. Yates. J. M. McArthur. R. Gittings, P. Palmer. K. C. McCaul. and W. Purvis; auditor, the Rev. Mr. Raine.
