FREE CLOTHING “SERVICE”

A man who entered a lockup outfitter’s shop! at Upper Green. Mitcham, entirely reclothed himself —except for boots —from the stock. He left his old clothing behind under the counter, however, and a young- officer. Detective Leonard Brammall, remembered having seen a man wearing / what seemed to be the discarded garb. He found Benjamin Hills, aged 32, of no home, on Mitcham Common, and taxed him with having been to the shop and leaving his old clothing there. Hills is alleged to have said: “I wondered how you knew it was me. I was a fool to take them. I went in really for the money, but there was only about a quid.” On a charge of shopbreaking and stealing £25 worth of goods and money, Hills was remanded in custody.
