ABOUT FOOD

Besides supplying nourishment and energy, the food we eat creates what is known as “animal heat.” Scientists tell us that when we do any brain work the temperature of our bodies falls slightly, but the tempera ture of the blood is affected by exercise as well as by food: Reptiles and fishes are cold-blooded; that is, they have the same temperature as their surroundings. One curious thing about such animals is that they may be frozen yet still live if thawed. A scientist once declared that a grown man produced in 21 hours enough heat to boil live pints of water!
