THE LAST QUARREL

It was Grannie’s birthday to-morrow, and the twins had each to get a brandnew shilling to spend on something nice for her. It had all been planned how they were going together to choose the little gift, but even in the days when little girls wore poke-bonnets and. long frocks such things ajj quarrels took place, and this is what happened to them. Rosy had to go to the village for Mummy, and a naughty little idea came into her head. “Why shouldn’t I take Posy’s shilling and mine and buy what I like for Granny, all by myself? she thought. “Surely Posy won’t mind. But somehow, when she got into the shop, it wasn't such fun choosing alone, after all, and she greatly missed her little twin. However, she bought a small jug, put it into her basket, and started home..

Now, in the meanwhile Posy had discovered the. loss of her shilling and started off to meet Rosy. The row took place in the. orchard, “You’re perfectly horrid,” said Posy. “So are you. Why did you mind?” replied Rosy. “It’s half my money? and the present is mine, too,” said Posy. “I chose It, so it’s more mine,” answered Rosy; and, would you believe it, they went and broke that little jug in the squabble. It was two very sorry little girls who went to tell Mummy all about it a few minutes later. "Well,” said Mummy gravely, after a little talk, “it’s just as well it’s gone, the cause of your first — “and last quarrel,” broke in the twins eagerly. Let us hope it reallv was. Anyway, they kissed and made up, and ran on happily hand-in-hand to spend their remaining pennies on a joint present for Granny —and quite . forgot the quarrel.
