Italian Intellectuals ATTACK ON FASCISM Rome, December 3. 1 Alleging the existence of a secret organisation preparing crimes against the Government, the police arrested 24 intellectuals, including an elderly American-born lady, Signora de Bosia, widow of an Italian poet, and translator of Shelley. A printing press was found under Signora de Bosia’s bed, and she is accused of disseminating leaflets exposing wrongs perpetrated under Fascism”. Others arrested are Renzo Rendi, correspondent of the New York “Evening Post,” and Mario Venciguerra, a translator of English books.
The arrests have astonished the Anglo-American colony, as several had Anglo-American literary connections. The accused have been handed over for trial to a special tribunal. It is also reported that Communist conspiracies have been discovered -in the Emila and Romagnano districts, and numerous arrests have been made.
