AIR MAIL CONTRACT
Tenders Close To-day
Dominion Special Service Auckland, December 4. Tenders for the daily transport of mail by air each way between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, have been called by the Government, and will close to-morrow. There have been quite a number of inquiries from companies likely to tender, and it is anticipated that several offers will be received, said the PostmasterGeneral, the Hon. J. B. Donald. It is hoped the Government will be in a position to' announce the acceptance of a tender next week, and it is probable the service will be in operation before next Easter. . f
The contract will be for three years, the date of commencement to be mutually arranged. The successful company is to be allowed to retain the surcharge of 3d. an ounce as payment for the service, less 74 per cent, to cover the cost to the Government of transporting the mail between the air-ports and the post offices.
