A CRITICAL EYE
Drinking by Women in Hotels
Provision of facilities encouraging women to drink in hotels is viewed unfavourably by the Wellington Licensing Committee, according to a statement made by the chairman. Mr. E. Page. S.M.. at the quarterly meeting yesterday.
Inspector Rawle reported that on two days last month forty women were found drinking in various hotels in the city. “It is of course clear,” said the chairman. “that a licensee is legally entitled to supply liquor to men and women, but the committee holds the view that a licensee should not encourage that class of trade. It regards unfavourably the making of facilities in some of the hotels —as they are made—encouraging women to go there and stay there and drink.
