Petone Council’s Fear Attention was drawn to the fact that the Wellington City Council is putting down a trial artesian bore about half a mile north of the Petone Borough Council artesian well at last evening’s meeting of the Petone Borough Council by Councillor Hogg, who suggested that the City Council ought to have notified Perone of its intentions in the first place. Councillor Hogg mentioned that the trial bore was right, in the line of flow of the water to the Petone wells. “It seems it might be detrimental to Petone’s supply,” he said. “The Wellington City Council might have approached us before putting it down. In view of its importance to us we ought to write to it and ask what its intentions are.” Councillor Toomath said that so far as he knew the City Council’s intention was to put down a bore about 500 feet. It was supplemented by the engineer saying that reports were to be made at various depths. Councillor Hogg: We should have kU The Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie): Yes; we ought. It was etiquette for them to let us know'. It is hardly the fair thing.. Councillor Hogg: There are other places than direct north of us. A councillor: The City Council could have gone direct south of the Petone wells.
