THREE KILLED
Car Overturns on Road SEVERAL INJURED Evidence of High Speed By Telegraph—Press Association. Te Awamutu, December 1. Instantaneous death of the driver, the death of two others in hospital, and the severe injury of another resulted from a motorcar accident near Kihikihi on Saturday evening. At the inquest evidence of drinking and fast travelling was given. Dead. Tommy Williams, aged 30, the driver, killed instantly. Henry Warren, aged 46, died thia morning in hospital. Kenny Williams, aged six, died late this afternoon in hospital. Injured. Hula Edwards, aged 36, severe concussion. The other three who were injured were taken home after treatment. The car was travelling toward Arapuni, when dbout a mile beyond Kihikihi the driver swerved to pass a vehicle standing on the roadside. Apparently he lost control, going very wide, and then turning sharply back to the road again. The vehicle ran up the side of a slight embankment and overturned, finally coming to a standstill some distance along the road and facing in the opposite way on to its original direction. The driver and six other occupants, all Maoris, were thrown out. The car was considerably damaged. At the inquest, which was opened yesterday, a Maori witness stated that he had spent the afternoon with the deceased driver. They had been in hotels, but he considered that the driver was sober. One of the occupants of the car said that they had drinks at Kihikihi Hotel a few minutes before the accident He thought the pace was fast, and just before the accident he heard one of the passengers ir). the back seat complain about the speed. He personally was frightened at the speed of the car. The inquest was adjourned.
