GRUESOME FEAST
Burglar Among Coffins
A gruesome discovery was recently made at Rinteln, on the Weser, in Germany. For some time the townspeople had been afraid to go near the cemetery, as they declared that ghosts walked there.
The chief sexton watched, and late at night saw an old man with a lantern in his hand and a knapsack on his back approach the vault of an aristocratic family. The man opened the iron door with a key and closed it behind him, whereupon the sexton telephoned to the police. Breaking open the door, • the police found the old man enjoying a luxurious meal, surrounded by six coffins, behind which were bottles of ivine, quantities of excellent food, and boxes of cigars and cigarettes. The man was an ex-convict. He had wandered to Rinteln, where he obtained supplies by committing burglaries. He had lived in luxury for a fortnight.
