NOT OVERLOOKED

League’s Correspondence MR. RANSOM’S ASSURANCE Dominion Special Service. Masterton, November 30. A reply from the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, to the league’s last communication, asking why its correspondence had not been acknowledged, was tabled at a meeting of the Wairarapa Progress League Mr. Ransom stated that the correspondence had not been overlooked, but had been held over pending consideration of the subject matter by Cabinet. Unfortunately, owing to the heavy pressure of Parliamentary business, it had not been found posr sible to brlug the papers forward. Had the delay been foreseen, a formal acknowledgment would have gone forward. It was to be regretted that the Royal Commission had not dealt with the question as promised by the Prime Minister, but as it had reported without doing so, Cabinet must now consider what action would be Ransom said he had noted the league’s opinion that the commission should be reconstituted, and its representations in this connection would have the consideration of the Government at an early date. “I have had repeated interviews with the Minister in connection with this matter, said Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P. lam a little disappointed that nothing more definite has been laid before the league. At the same time I am satisfied that the Government does not desire to shelve the matter. Mr. Forbes assured me before he left for England that the matter would be Inquired into during the recess, and a report made to Parliament. “If It Is economically sound, we will welcome it, as It will create employment. You know my political leanings, but I am assured that the Government is in earnest in the matter.” After discussion the league decided that when Mr. Ransom has recovered from his illness, and has returned to Parliament Honse. Mr. Svkes and the president of the league, Mr. W. L. Free, should wait upon him.
