Forbes and party are visiting Manchester under the auspices of the British Empire League. They were welcomed by the Lord Mayor and entertained at luncheon by the Ship Canal Company. A private dinner was given by the Lord Mayor, after which a public reception was tendered to Mr. Forbes. Speaking at the luncheon, Mr. Forbes said that New Zealanders were convinced of the wisdom of standing by their own people and the Motherland. They insisted that their exports should be of the highest quality, and they enforced Government approval of everything leaving the country. British manufacturers were given such a substantial preference that New Zealand was the highest per capita buyer of British goods. New Zealand’s policy of toncentrating the utmost amount of trade in the British family would be continued. The party inspected the Ship Canal and the Metropolitan-Vickers electrical works.
