SOUTHERLY STORM CLEARS
Yesterday’s Weather The heavy rainstorm of Wednesday turned to the south during the night, and the temperature dropped appreciably. Yesterday morning the wind was cold and boisterous, but the conditions improved considerably during the forenoon and the afternoon was fine. The wind remained in the south. For the 24 hours ended at midnight last night, 22 points of rain was registered on “The Dominion’s” rain gauge. For the preceding 24 hours the fall was 137 points. The weather at Auckland was fine and sunny with a light westerly wind. The barometer rose steadily, the reading last, evening being 29.90 in. The weather at Christchurch yesterday was cold and overcast with a strong breeze from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer continued to rise, the reading last evening being 30.25. The weather was overcast and unsettled at Dunedin, with brief periods of sunshine and a squally wind from the south-west. The maximum temperature at midday was 50 degrees. The barometer, which rose rapidly on Wednesday night, was still rising, the reading being 30.15.
