Wilding and Nunneley N.Z. BODY TAKES CONTROL Due to the unsatisfactory position of the-• Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield and the Kathleen Nunneley Casket competitions, the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association at its meeting last evening decided that in future the New Zealand Association should control and manage all matches for these two challenge trophies. . . The principle of the scheme submitted, by the management committee was approved, and a recommendation by Mr. W. B. Watson that the matches be played on a district basis, a preliminary round, intermediate round, and final, was accepted. For the purposes of the competition the management committee had grouped the associations into nine districts. In moving the motion Mr. M. E. Denniston said that ten matches had been played for the Wilding Shield in nine years. The gates had amounted to £374. ■ The allocation of this sum was as follows:— Canterbury, £150: Wellington, £103; Auckland, £7O; New Zealand Association, £37. To get its £37 the New Zealand Association had expended £32. Mr. Denniston said he had the approval of (Miss Nunneley to the alteration. .Wellington and Canterbury opposed the proposal, and Auckland was for giving it a trial. Several of the minor associations considered it was a step in the right direction. Mr. Watson made his suggestion of district competitions in the interests of greater economy/ To bring players to one place for a week as suggested by the management committee would be far too costly;
