Claim to Sovereignty NORWEGIAN GOVERNMENT British Wireless Rugby, November 25. Notes have been exchanged between the British Legation at Oslo and the Norwegian Government with reference to the latter’s claim to sovereignty over Jan Mayen Island, 300 miles northeast of Iceland. The British Note announces tne formal recognition of Norwegian sovereignly over the island, but adds that recognition “Is accorded independently of, and with all due reserves in regard to the actual grounds” of the claim. In reply, the Norwegian Government expresses its gratitude for the friendly attitude of the British Government.
