Addington Prices Irregular FAT LAMBS AND CATTLE UP By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 26. Entries in the principal sections of the weekly sale at Addington to-day were smaller than for'some weeks, but there was a, great deal of irregularity in the various auctions, and easings in values were recorded in the store sheep and fat pig sections. Store Sheep.—There was a fairly good entry, and it included sheep from the Chatham Islands and Blenheim. The sale was a dull one, and prices recorded a decline of 1/6 to 2/- a head all round. Values were: Medium ewe hoggets made to 17/-; ordinary ewe hoggets, to 14/-; wether hoggets, 9/- to 12/10; extra good four and six-tooth Romney wethers, to 19/4; good sorts, 14/9 to 16/3; medium sorts, 12/9 to 14/-; good four and six-tooth halfbred wethers, to 15/10; small to medium sorts, 7/4 to 12/4; eull wethers, 3/1 to 6/6; shorn two, four, six and, eight-tooth halfbred ewes, 11/- to 12/3; shorn four and six-tooth Romney ewes, 15/9 to 16/3; aged halfbred ewes, to 3/9; medium to good ewes and lambs (all counted), 10/5 to 12/-; ordinary sorts, 7/9 to 8/3. . . Fat:Lambs. —There was an entry of 460 head, as compared with 680 at the last market, and. it'was a very firm sale. There was a general increase in the prices by 1/and up to 2/- a head over the whole sale. Values were: Extra prime lambs, to 30/1; prime lambs, 22/6 to 25/-; medium lambs, 19/- to 22/-; light lambs,-17/- to . 18/6. Fat Sheep.—The entry of fat ' sheep was 4100 head, as compared with 6200 head at last sale. This .yarding .was-not a great deal in excess of requirements, and the sale was a fair one. It opened at rates a little above those of last week, but receded as the sale progressed, and on the average there was no change on late rates to record. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 28/1; prime heavy wethers, 23/to 26/9; medium weight prime wethers, 19/- to 22/6; second quality wethers, 15/to 18/9; inferior wethers, 11/6 to 14/-; extra prime ewes, to 23/10; prime ewes, 19/- to 22/-; medium ewes, 15/- to 18/-; light ewes 11/6 to 14/-; aged ewes, 9/6 to 11/-; best woolly, wethers, to 25/1; medium woolly wethers, 22/- to 24/3; light woolly wethers, 14/- to 18/-; best woolly ewes, to 24/10; prime woolly ewes, 18/- to 22/-; medium woolly ewes, to 17/-; light and aged woolly ewes, 10/- to 13/-. Fat Cattle Advance. Fat Cattle.—The entry was a smaller one than for many weeks, and there were no lines forward from outside the province. The demand was good, and competition Irregular, although/ keen. There was an average advance in values of £1 a head for all classes. Best mediumweight. beef made from 43/- to 47/0 per 1001 b.; heavy beef made 35/0 to 39/6; cow beef, from 37/- to 41/-; secondary beef, from 31/- to 35/-; and rough, down to 26/-. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers, to £2l/7/6; prime heavy steers. £l7/10/- to £2O/10/-; prime mediumweight steers, £l4 to £l7; medium quality steers. £ll t'o £l3/15/-; light steers, £8 to £lO/10/-; extra prime heifers, to £l5/12/6; prime heifers, £l2 to £l4/10/-; medium heifers, £9 to. £ll/10/-; light heifers, £6/15/- to £B/10/-; extra prime cows, to £lB/7/6; prime cows, £ll/10/to £l4; medium cows, £B/10/- to £11; light and aged cows, £6 to £B. Vealers.—There was only an average entry of vealers, and the quality was very mixed. However, the sale was quite satisfactory, and good sorts sold at rates fully up to those ruling at last sale. The top price for the market was £B/11/-. Store Cattle. —There was a medium yarding of store cattle consisting chiefly of yearlings to 18-months-old beasts. The sale was a better one than last week’s, and prices were a little firmer. A pen of 18 to 20-months steers of good colours made £5/6/-; a pen of 15 to 20-months Jersey heifers', £4/7/6; yearling .to 18months steers brought to £4/5/-; yearling heifers. £4/10/-; 15-mdnths Short; horn cross steers, to £4/14/-; mixed sex; yearlings, 46/- to 50/-. There was a bigger yarding of bulls than usual, and young Shorthorn bulls were wanted.. There were few cows sold. .Dairy Cattle.—There was an average yarding of 52 head of dairy cattle, as compared with 65 head at last sale. The quality was not very good, and the cattle were not in very good condition. .The market opened with a distinct rise in prices, and that advance was maintained throughout the sale. Values were: Second and third calvers, £9 to £11; medium second and third calvers, £7 to £B/10/-; aged and inferior, £3/10/- to £6; good heifers, £9 to £10; medium heifers. £6 15/- to £8; others, £4/15/- to £5/5/-. Fat Pigs.—There was a large entry of fat pigs, which met with a fair demand. There was a small easing in prices. Values were: Porkers, 37/- to 47/-; heavy, 50/to 60/- (average price per lb., 7d. to 8d.); baeoners, £3/2/6 to £3/10/-; heavy, £3 t o ' £ 4/9/6 (average price per lb., 6d. to Gid.); choppers, £3/7/6 to £7/8/6. Store pigs'were yarded in fair numbers, and the offering met with a good demand, weaners particularly selling well. Values were: Large stores, up to 44/-; small, to 3’V*’ weaners ’ t 0 sUps ’ HAWKE’S BAY VALUES ' Stortford Lodge Sale Dominion Special Service. Hastings, November 20. Buyers from outside districts, including Waikato and Manawatu, were present among a fair attendance I .' at Stortford Lodge sale to-day. Fat cattle were plentiful and the cattle pens generally were wellfilled. Bullock beef was of good quality, some well-finished pens . being included. Prime cow beef maintained late prices, but ox beef declined about 10/- all round and up to 20/- in some cases. A good beef price was given for prime P.A. bullocks, some being sold on account of Mr. Gordon Williams for £l3/4/-, the lowest of the line bringing £l2/12/0. A line of Hereford heifers in prime condition ex Poukawa averaged £B/9/-, a pen of prime P.A. cows making £9/16/-. Four light prime P.A. bullocks in fair condition and fair-framed were passed in at £lO/5/-. . Two big solid P.A. bullocks, almost prime heavy, fetched £l2/7/6, a heavier companion bringing £l3, and three lighter £l2. The top beef price was £l3 7/6 for a pen of well-lined aiid big-framed P.A. bullocks. Stores ranged from £2/1/- for lowconditioned yearling P.A. steers to £7 for a goyd line of P.A. steers. The fat sheep yarding only met butchers’ demands. Prime heavy ewes began well, but declined toward the end of the. sale. Vealers, light, 18/-. Fat Sheep.—Prime shorn wethers, 19/-,; heavy prime shorn ewes. 12/6 to 17/-; light, 10/10 to 12/2; woolly ewes, unfinished, 9/9; medium, 12/- to 14/3; shorn hoggets, light, 12/6; prime, 16/6 to 17/-. At Westfield sale to-day beef was offered in larger numbers than usual, the quality being first-class. There was a falling-off in demand, and: values were considerably easier for all classes. Sheep.—A heavy yarding came forward, but met with a weak demand, values consequently being below last week’s quotations. Wright, Stephenson- and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered an average yarding of very fine quality cattle, and competition was good, at prices 10/- to 15/- below the rates ruling last week. Sheep came forward up to the usual numbers, and a total clearance was effected at auction. Prices for all classes of sheep offered showed a decline on last week’s rates; the wethers being easier to the extent of 1/6 ■ per head, shorn hoggets 2/6 to 3/-, ewes 2/- to 2/6, and spring lambs 1/-. to 1/0. Jackson and Co. offered a fair entry of cattle and a light yarding of sheep and pigs. A small entry of good dairy cows' met good competition at late rates. The other cattle entry comprised mostly yearling run-bred beasts which met a fair sale at late rates. The fat cattle were mostly ex dairy cows which made only fair prices, the supply being slightly more than the requirements of the trade.'
