WEEK-END GOLF
Closing Day at Hutt Golfers appreciated the tine weather during most of the week-end, when many players availed themselves of the opportunity to have a last game before packing their clubs away until next season. The outstanding feature was the opening of the Kirk memorial gates on the Hutt course, to the memory of the late Mr. R. C. Kirk, who did so much for the game in the Dominion. HUTT SEASON ENDS ■ Presentation of Prizes The Hutt club closed the 1930 season on Saturday. A mixed foursome competition was played, which resulted m a win for R. Wagg and Miss A. Bunny. After the competition there was a large gathering of members at _ the clubhouse when the prizes won during the season were presented by the ladies’ captain, Mrs. A. H. Treadwell, as follow: — Mixed foursomes (opening day), R. O. Chesney and Mrs. Chesney; first four-ball handicap. R. G. Hayward and R. L. Ingham; Wilford Cup. C. N. Armstrong and. A G Todd; first medal handicap, A. 11. L. Treadwell (senior), 11. N. Burns (junior); Hughes memorial, S. L. London; Canadian, foursome. G. -C. Goodwin and M. Paulin; Dawson memorial. A.- H. L. Treadwell and .Miss B. Jervis: first bogey handicap. J. A. Ronald (senior) and R. I. M. Sutherland (junior); teams’ match, J. A. Ronald, S. T. Seddon, E. T. E. Hogg. M. Paulin ; second medal handicap, L. Buist (senior), and C. A. Burgess (junior); 36-hole medal handicap, N. G. Hayward (senior), and R. S. Johnston (junior) ; best gross score. Rana Wagg; foursome handicap. L. C. Hemery and' 'S. A. Wiren; senior championship, D. Buist: intermediate championship S. L. London; junior championship, P. Ellerm; second four-ball handicap. P. Wagg and M. Paulin; mixed foursome. S. Hogg and Miss N. Ballinger; second bogey handicap, R. G. Hayward (senior), and 11. F. Bollard (junior); mixed foursome (closing day), Rana Wagg and Jiiss A. Bunny. MIRAMAR CLUB A three-section stroke competition was played by the Miramar club on Saturday. ■ The winner in the senior division was\ J. Crawford, whose card read 73 —7 —<l6. B D. Bayless won in the intermediate grade witli 79—1t—68. and D. J. Hawkes prevailed among the juniors with 84 16—68. t , The tic in the senior section of the stroke handicap competition held on October 2 was played oft and resulted in J. Crawford beaming S. Gambrill. This victory by Crawford gave him the gold button presented by J. L. Tetley, which was open to those who had won a stroke or bogey competition during the season. , , x , , Saturday’s programme marked, the end of the Miramar season. The prizes won during the year will be presented at the clubhouse on Saturday next. HOLE IN ONE Miss Rita Hodgins, of the Shandon club, joined the select band of those who have holed out in one during the weekend. Playing round the Shandon course with Miss Hay-Mackenzie. Miss Hodgins with a perfect mashie pitch holed out her tee shot at “The Crater” (111yds.). News of this feat quickly spread, and Miss Hodgins will be called upon to pay the penalty nt an early date. SHANDON CLUB The Shandon links were in excellent playing condition on Saturday, the fairways being in particularly good order. The fast greens proved tricky, and piled up the scores. The best cards in the stroke competition were: Gunn. 94—16 — 78; W. R. Stuckey, 95—8—87. The team to play in a 15-a-side match at Titahi Bay next Saturday will be announced during the week.
