TO-DAY’S SPORTS

Cricket Championships GOLF AND LIFE-SAVING Some bright cricket should. fie witnessed this afternoon, when the second series of matches in the senior championship competition, which were interrupted by rain last Saturday, will be concluded. University, with one wicket down for 16 runs, will have a task at Kelburn to reach the 332 set it by Old Boys. If McLeod gets going iu his best style the students may have a fighting chance. Institute should head. the 229 which Kilbirnie scored on the opening day on the Kilbirnie ground, particularly as Dempster (45) and Banks (26) already have 72 without the loss of a wicket. ; It will be interesting to see whether Hutt, which has no wiekets down for 5 runs, will be able to hit up the 277 it requires to beat Midland.. If McGirr can repeat his form of the opening match, when he scored 144 against Institute, Hutt should have little difficulty in reaching its objective. J. Newman, however, makes a wonderful difference to the Midland attack. This match is being played on the Hutt ground. Petone should have little difficulty in securing a win over Wellington at Petone, Oval, particularly as it has 44 on for the loss of one wicket in reply to Wellington’s opening knock of 140. A. Hamilton (24) and T. Ritchie (15) will resume for Petone this afternoon. Golf Games. The Hutt Golf Club will close their 1930 season to-day with a mixed foursome competition.
