Damages for Alleged Libel
Melbourne, October 31.
A claim for £lO,OOO damages for alleged libel was made in a writ against the proprietors of the “Argus” on behalf of Cyril Thornton. The plaintiff states that the defendants published an article on April 22 falsely representing that he went to India to assist the rebellious Indians to create civil turmoil and arranged to challenge the Government of India by publicly breaking the salt laws.
