The Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, left Wellington for Feilding yesterday. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, left for Auckland by the Limited express last evening. The Hon. A. J. Murdoch, Minister of Mines, returned to Wellington from the South Island by the ferry steamer ■yesterday morning. He left for the north by the Limited express last evening.
Mr. J. B. Foster, United States Trade Commissioner, will return to Wellington from Auckland this morning. Mr. O. N. Gillespie, general manager of Australia and New Zealand Pictures, left for Sydney yesterday by the Ulimaroa.
Lieut-Colonel R. C. Allen will leave Auckland by the Tpfua to-day on a visit to his brother, Mr. S. S. Allen, Administrator of Western Samoa.
Dr. J. J. North, principal of the Baptist College, Auckland,’ left last night for Christchurch, where he will take charge for a month of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. Mr. A. Hamilton, M.P., who addressed the Farmers’ Union executive in Wellington this week on farming costs and market prices, has now returned to Invercargill.
Mr. J. A. Campbell, director of the Horticultural Department, will .leave on Monday for North Auckland for the purpose of inspecting the citrus fruitgrowing areas. The Rev. Father Kimball, of the Eccleston Hill Mission House, is still confined to his bed in the Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch. He expects to return to Wellington in about a fortnight. Mr. J. B. Moodie, of Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., was at the annual meeting unanimously re-elected chairman of the Wellington Woolbrokers’ Association for the third year in succession. Messrs. L. Wilson, V. Alborn, D. Withers, L. C. Macarthur, and G. IT. Walford, of Christchurch; Mr. V. L. Macdonald, Invercargill; and Messrs. E. J. Brennan, E. Grant Sim, and R. McKegg, of Palmerston North, are staying at the. Grand Hotel.
Professor P. G. Hornell, the Swedish expert who came to New Zealand at the invitation of the Government, to report on the Arapuni hydro-electrie scheme, was a passenger on the Ulimaroa, which left Wellington yesterday for Sydney. While in New Zealand Professor Hornell inspected several other engineering works. Mr. W. N. Werner, engineer-assistant to Professor Hornell, also left by the Ulimaroa.
The Rev, C. W. Turner, viear of Matamata, has been appointed vicar of Te Aroha. in the place of the Rev. R. L. Connolly, who has accepted the charge of St. Aidan’s, Remuera. Mr. Turner was born in London and was ordained deacon in 1909. He served for nine rears with the Melanesian Mission and from 1919 to 1922 was curate at Cambridge. Waikato. From 1922 to 1925 he was vicar of Tanmarunui. Since 1926 Mr. Turner lias been vicar of Matamata. Mr; G. E. Bunting, Australian and New Zealand manager for Canadian National Steamships and general traffic agent for Canadian National Railways, with headquarters in Sydney, is retiring from the service and is returning to Canada this month. Mr. F. G._ Wood New Zealand manager for Canadian National Steamships and New Zealand a- nt for Canadian National Railways, has been appointed io succeed Mr. BuntingMr. W. M. Luke has been appointed to succeed Mr. Wood as New Zealand manager.
