WANGANUI NOTES
Wanganui, October 30. On Tuesday evening, in the Salvation Army Citadel, the total amount collected ■by the Army during Its recent Selfdenial Week, will be announced. The city and district were divided into blocks, and. £4OO was collected In the city area, and £lO, last Friday, by a street appeal. It is 14 weeks since the examination of the site for the Technical College new boys’ hostel was commenced. The foundations for the whole are now practically complete, and portions of the building have advanced to the first lloor. Fifty men are employed on the work at the present time. . ~ The Greatford Sports Club intends holding' its sports meeting on Anniversary Day, January 22, 1031. At the annual meeting of the club, the following officers were elected: —President, Mr. H. T. Whale; Vice-presidents, Messrs, G. Lewis, N. Lewis, N. Bryant, A. and H. Stantlal, D. Freidrich, A. J. and C. H. Whale, Loft; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Short. . ' To assist the Convent swimming bath s fund, an amusing pantomime was staged for three nights at the Wanganui Opera House. The principals were Misses M. McGill, T. Pepper, H. Crysell, and Messrs. H. Melville, H. Osborne, and E. Lind The ballets were arranged by Miss E. Wright. As a result of a series of lectures given recently in Wanganui, a number of people who wished to continue the study of psychology met last evening to form a club. The meeting was addressed by Mr. Charles Spooner, of Palmerston North, who described the working of the club in that city, and its effect on the community. A temporary committee was appointed to finalise matters and a further meeting is to be held next week.
