Dock to be Completed IMPORTANT DECISION Dominions’ Desires Met WORK TO BE SPEEDED UP Bj Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, October 16. The British Government tonight informed the Dominion delegates that the construction of the Singapore Graving Dock will be completed in contract time. Thus the Imperial Conference’s first important decision is reached. Mr. Philip Snowden presided. Mr. A Henderson, Mr. T. Shaw, Lord Amulree, and Mr. A. V. Alexander represented Britain; Mr. Scullin, Mr. Mol oney, and Mr. Brennan, Australia; and Mr. Forbes and Sir Thomas Sidey, New Zealand. The other Dominions were not represented. The decision will necessitate the speeding up of the work, which was slowed down earlier in the year. It is understood that the aerial defences and wireless station will also be completed, but the British Government is further considering the question of land fortifications.
The discussions on Singapore are now concluded as far as the present Conference is concerned.
The decision meets with the desires of Australia and New Zealand that a dock accommodating the largest ships shall be available.
