NEW YEAR AND OLD YEAR
In comes Neto Year tripping gaily, With her candle tall; Away goes old year, sadly, With her candle small.
New Year then gaily prepares Fruit and flowers of every kind, While Old Year goes away sadly, Leaving nothing for us behind.
New Year to some brings gladness, To others pain and grief; But Old Year slowly fades away, Like a withered leaf. —Written by Marjory Nicholls, aged 9).
[The above little poem was written, at the ape of nine years, by the late Mrs. J. Hannah, who met her death in a tragic manner a few weeks ago, The late Mrs. Hannah was very well known to many of our grown-up readers for her clever work in the theatrical world. The above composition is published by courtesy of Mrs. Hannah’s uncle, Mr. Francis de F. Sampson, of Wanganui, who holds the original.}
