“THE GOLDEN LEGEND”
The Royal Wellington Choral Union will give its second concert of tlie year at (he Town Hall this evening. The work to be performed is Sir Arthur Sullivan's beautiful setting of Longfellow's poem. “The Golden Legend.” The work demands well equipped soloists, and the union lias assembled a fine quartet from all over the Dominion. Madame Winnie Fraser, of Oarnaru. will take the part of Elsie: Miss Hilda Chudley that of Ursula; Mr. Alfred Walmsley, the Dunedlu tenor who made a success in “Carmen" earlier in the year, will sustain tlie role written for the Prince, whilst Mr. Barrv Coney, of Auckland, will double tlie parts of Lucifer and the Forester “The Golden Legend" will be preceded by Bach's unaccompanied motet. “Sing Ye to tlie Land.” The chorus and orchestra of 280 performers have been rehearsing for some months past, and hope to offer to patrons a fine rendering of these glorious works under Mr. John Bishop's direction. The box plan can be inspected at tlie Bristol till 11.30, where 2/tickets will also bo on sale. The doors will open at 7,15.
