Corrigan first attracted police attention when he was a second-grade steward on a steamship. He then Joined the Ministry of Munitions, where he called himself Major Cassidy. Later, for live years he exploited Imaginary concessions in Yucatan, ruining several victims, his frauds exceeding £lOO,OOO. The judge, in sentencing Corrigan, said accused had been guilty of bad and cruel frauds. Corrigan showed no mercy. One wealthy nian lost everything and was obliged to become a clerk in an insurance office, while Corrigan lived in luxury at the best hotels in England and France.
