SHORTBREAD MEN.

These little shortbread men are very easily made, and are very nice for picnic lunches. To make them you will need 4oz. of butter, 2o». of castor sugar. Coz. of flour, and 4 drops of vanilla.

Beat the butter well, using a wooden spoon, and when soft, stir in the sugar.

Add the flour, and work iuto a smooth paste with your bands (be sure they are quite clean, though). Fiour a piece of grease-proof paper 4 the size of ii baking-tin, and roll out the paste on it to jin, In thickness. Now, with a sharp-pointed knife, cut out little men like the picture. They are very easy to do, and cause great fun. Take care not to cut the grease-proof paper. The eyes, nose and month and buttons are currants stuck on. When yon have cut out al) the little men, lift the grease-proof paper on to a baking-tin and bake In a very slow oven for 20 minutes. Leave the little men on the baking-tin until they are quite cold,
