In a slum school in Glasgow, a boy had been punished, and his mother called to investigate the matter. She learned that the punishment was'due to gross neglect of his geography. The caller swelled visibly.
“Geography!” she shrilled scornfully. “Geography! What does he want wi’ geography? I niver learnt nae geography, and I’ve got a man and a twa room and kitchen hoose. Mu sister niver learnt nae geography, and she’s got a man and a three room and kitchen hoose. An’ you, ye’re that packit fu’ o’ geography ye canna get a man.’ ”
