PLUNKET ROOMS FOR GREYTOWN.
Dominion ' Special Service. On Monday evening Dr. N. 11. Prior is to deliver the first of a series of lectures under the auspices of the Workers Educational Association and Victoria University College on “Some Leaders of Medical Progress.” . . „ „ At its meeting last night the committee of the Masterton orchestra decided to give all possible assistance in the organisation of music week, regarding which a meeting of those interested, convened by the Mayor (Mr. T. Jordan), is to be held in the Municipal Social Hall on Monday evening. A billiards handicap tournament (oO up) was played on,.Thursday evening at the Soldiers’ Club. There was a largo number of entries, The prizes were donated by the club’s secretary, Mr. A. L. Bennett. C. 11. Devenport won the first prize, with G. Groves as runner-up. Devenport also won the prize for the highest break (38) during the evening. At a meeting of representatives of the Blanket Society and the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union at Greytown this week it was decided to combine in an effort toward the end of July to provide funds to help to erect Plunket rooms and a rest room. The effort will cover two days, and will, take the form of an entertainment, a Paddy’s market, carnival dance, etc. . Some time ago the Martinborough Borough Council decided to accept the freehold of a forest reserve as a wntercatchment area, but on ascertaining that the water would bo conserved for all time without the liability attendant to a freehold, notice of motion was given to rescind the resolution, and at Friday’s meeting of the borough council the motion was carried, by six votes to three.
