DAWN.
The pearly clouds are. flushing pink, As though upon them Sol doth wink; The primrose and the eglantine, Also the dainty columbine, Are wakened by the dawn. The fairies from their toadstools creep. And little birds begin to cheep; The spider now his web repairs, The foxes slink into their lairs, For quickly comes the mom. The milkmaid’s tripping down the lane, . : Mayhap she.goes to meet her swain; The kine proceed now to their stall, They come at Jack, the plough-boy’s, call—., r ■ '■ He does not blow a horn. .The dew is shining on the tree, The floufrs await the busy bee; The breezes rustle in the grass, They whisper secrets as they pass v To daisies ■on the lawn. —Highly; commended, Dorothy Patrick,: Miramarf.(aged 12 -years)-;-—
