LABOUR UNIONS AND UNEMPLOYMENT
Sir,—It would be interesting to know what the unions are doing for their own unemployed members. Some trade unions have money Invested in various directions, some four or five thousand in their own building. Are they assisting any out-of-work members? If not. why not? They demand £2 down to 5/- to join their organisations, and the officials get from £5 to £lO a week wages, but where does the rank and file come in? We wait for the Government to give us a dole. They tell us the law forbids any sick or unemployment benefit—I am. etc WESTERNER. Wellington, June 11.
