PICTURE EXHIBITION
Amateur Arts Society Frankly amateur m their approach to the subject, but by no means amateur in their method of handling it, members of the Amateur Arts Society opened its annual exhibition in the Fine Arts Salon last evening. Many members and friends of the society were present. The display was divided into two principal sections, one containing work by members of the society, and the other—labelled professional—consisting of works _ by painters who are interested in the society. Sections devoted to photography and to commercial art completed the exhibition. The main feature of last evening’s private view was the detailed but informal criticism of each picture given by Mr. Christopher Perkins, of the Wellington School of Art. He went from picture to picture along the walls, remarking on their good points, and often indicating their worst. Mr. Perkins’s criticism was followed with a great deal, of interest by members of the society, and he was thanked at its conclusion. Many “amateur artists” were represented by one or more pictures. The exhibition is open to the public to-day.
