FAILURE TO REGISTER
Masterton Dentist Dominion Special Service. Masterton, June 13. Two charges of having practised dentistry when not having registered as a dentist, were preferred to-day against W. J. Grose, of Masterton, in the Police Court, before Mr. J. Miller, S.M. There was also a joint charge of a breach of section 21 of tthe Dentists’ Act, 1908, against this defendant, and W. R. S. Rankin. Inspector Ward conducted the case for the prosecution, and Mr. H. R. Biss for the defendant.
' A brief history of the Act was given by Mr. Biss, who said that there was nothing in the section under which the action was taken to prevent a qualified dentist designating himself as a dental surgeon, or an unqualified man from carrying on as a dental technician, but he could not trade as a firm of dental surgeons without being open to action. Rankin was a registered dental surgeon, and was entitled to practise as was set out in the Act, but Grose, who, though qualified, was not registered, was not entitled to do so. He could do mechanical work, however. Mr. Biss contended that there was no misleading of the public, and the partnership was not an association within the meaning of the Act. The Magistrate intimated that he would take time to consider! hi« d«cisrion-
