LEWISHAM HOSPITAL
Street Day Appeal To-morrow A street appeal will be made tomorrow on behalf of the Lewisham Hospital,, which was erected by means of voluntary effort and opened/in August last by the late Governor-General, (Sir Charles Fergusson). It is stated that the accommodation has been taxed to the utmost since opening day. The building now in operation is but the commencement of a big undertaking in Wellington. The work of the Lewisham sisters is primarily for the poor, but to aid them in this undertaking a private hospital is maintained. The revenue from the private hospital is to be utilised towards providing a general hospital and outpatients’ block for the poor, and when these buildings are erected and equipped the revenue will go towards their maintenance and upkeepPending the accomplishment or this development plan, provision is made in the present hospital for treating a certain number of poor and indigent cases. The object of the street day appeal is to provide for these cases, and also to augment the fund for the provision of the general hospital and outpatients block.
