Biting South Wind The less said about yesterday’s weather the better. The southerly wind of the previous day increased in strength during the night and throughout the day a rapid succession of violent rain-squalls accompanied by a biting wind made conditions thoroughly unpleasant There was a continuation of wintry weather at Auckland yesterday, a fresh breeze blowing from the south-west. The conditions were squally with rainshowers at' intervals. The barometer was steady after midday at 30 ! K) inches. The weather at Christchurch was decidedly wintry, rain, hail and sunshine alternating, but not too much sunshine. The wind was bitter from the south-west and the temperature barely reached 45. The barometer rose rapidly and last evening read 30.31, but the conditions were still most unpleasant. Following a moderate south-west gale accompanied by heavy rain, hall and sleet on Tuesday night, the wea ther was very wintry in Dunedin yesterday. There were intermittent showers of rain with a light snowfall on the higher levels. The maximum temperature was 47 degrees. The barometer rose rapidly on Tuesday night and continued to rise yesterday, last night’s reading being 30.25 inches. For the 24 hours ended at midnight last night, 21J points of rain was recorded on the “Dominion’s” rain gauge.
