PORT OF FOXTON

Another Scow Needed Palmerston North, June 11. Confidence that if the port of Foxton were served by another scow it would be a success was expressed at a meeting yesterday of the Manawatu County Council. when the recent rate levied on contributing bodies was tinder discussion. The chairman (Mr. W. E. Barber) said the position Still was that, in fcpite of a little loss, the district gained immensely by the port which could be made to pay if one more scow were running to it. The unfortunate position of the Foxton Harbour Board was due to the Kennedy being taken off the run ; port charges had continued to pile up, while trade was at a standstill. The local bodies were to confer on the matter, but the rate would have to be paid this year. The port was of-value to the district, and might yet come into its own again. It was the natural outlet for nn extensive district, and he would be very sorry, at the moment, to sea it closed.
