Richardson, S. Harman. NURSES’ COOKERY BOOK A cookery book for nurses compiled by Atherton Molineaux, R.N., and Jessie E. Randall, R.N., has just been issued by L. 51. Isitt Ltd., aud contains all kinds of recipes, invalid and otherwise, “as used in the Public Hospital, Christchurch?’ A foreword by. sliss Bick; nell, Director of Nursing Services, speaks of it as “essentially practical and economical,” and-commends it to the use of other nurses. The book contains such recipes as ones for pasteurising and humanising milk, for drinks such as lemon whey, black-currant tea, barley negus, etc., and broths of all kinds for invalids, as well as egg dishes, jellies, cereals and other recipes of a like nature. The English Speaking Union in Wellington will hold a cabaret and card evening at the Adelphi Cabaret on June 30. Invitations have been issued by the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association for a dance and bridge party at the Adelphi Cabaret next week in aid of the funds. Paris decrees that one may wear any bead necklace one fancies, provided one wears it down one’s back.

! WEDDING HIROTI—TURNER. At‘.Christ Church, Wanganui, yesterday, the wedding was solemnised of Jane, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Turner, of .Wangaehu, formerly of Wairarapa, to James, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Hiroti, of Wangaehu. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of palo blue rucked taffetas and cream silk lace, with silver and pale pink rosebuds. The hand-embroidered brussels net veil was caught by a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a shower bouquet Mrs. W. Claridge (Palmerston North), sister of the bride, acted as matron of honour, wearing shellpink ray de chine,, with flounces of silver lace, and pink tulle headdress. Her shower bouquet was of pale pink blossoms. The Rev. W. Tye was the officiating clergyman, and Mr. 0. Hughes, of Miramar, Wellington, was best man. After fhe ceremony a reception was held at the Royale Willows, where Mrs. Turner received, her guests wearing, a navy repp, costume, with touches of fawn, and navy and fawn hat Her posy was of autumn-tinted flowers. WANGANUI GIRLS’ COLLEGE OLD “GIRLS’. ASSOCIATION. In presenting the report at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Girls’ College Old Girls’ Association, Miss Rita Bassett, hon. secretary, spoke of the very successful year that had passed. Many sums had been , given to charities and £156/8/9 was collected for the old girls’ scholarship fund. The sum of £lBl/13/4 already in hand had been invested in Government bonds. Deep regret was expressed at the passing of three of the association’s members,. Mrs. R. McNiven (G. Ashwell), and Misses B. Burnet and M. Jackson. Money had been donated by the association as follows:—£10 for Mrs. Wood’s» gift; £5/5/-,. prize fund; £5, school library; £5, Garrison. A design for the new blazer was approved, specimens being exhibited at the meeting. The one chosen is of old gold with the crest worked on the pocket.

Smart and seasonable coats at George and Doughty’s, Ltd., include many in large' sizes suitable for matrons’ wear. A West of England tweed coat cut with a semi-fitting back is double-breasted and has inset pockets and a narrow collar of marmot fur. APOLLO SINGERS , SOCIAL EVENING. At this week’s practice of the recentlyformed _ Apollo Singers the wives and lady friends of the members were present by invitation to hear the singers. Although the choir has been practising but a few weeks, very marked progress has been made, and the members are exceptionally keen on their work. The conductor is Mr. H. Temple White. The , choir is practically complete in its various sections and a fairly considerable waiting list has been formed of singers wishing to join its ranks. The choir expressed its high appreciation of the assistance given to its members by Messrs. Chas. Begg and Co., through Mr. A. T. Cartwright, their local manager, by permitting the practices to be held on their premises. Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright were present as guests* The chairman of the choir, Mr. Brady, who is about to leave on a trip to Australia with Mrs. Brady, was, with his wife, wished bon voyage and a safe return. , „ At the conclusion of the rehearsal the party adjourned to the Ritz, where supper was served. MADAME MENERE IN HASTINGS. Madame Menere and Co., Ltd., the noted Christchurch fur merchants, are at present ’holding their exhibition of magnificent Russian and Canadian furs (bver £10.009 worth), in Briggs’ Sample Rooms (behind Briggs’ saddlers’ shop, Karamu Road).
