MANY CREDITORS
Page from Edgar Wallace WOMAN’S BANKRUPTCY Dominion Special Service. Auckland, June 11. An informal meeting of creditors of Winifred Baker, a clerk, of Auckland, who was adjudicated bankrupt by his Honour Sir Alexander Herdman on May 30, was held to-day before the Official Assignee, Mr. Watters. There was a large attendance, including a number of solicitors. Bankrupt was represented by Mr. Singer. At the outset the assignee explained that there was no official meeting owing to the fact, that proofs of debt had not yet been filed. Every proof must be established, and until the creditors were approved there could be no examination. Mr. Dickson (for a creditor): But you are here in the Interests of the creditors and must do what you can for them. The assignee: Exactly so, but they are not creditors until they are proved. One of the creditors remarked that the case vvas like a page from Edgar Wallace. Mr. Singer: A whole book, I think. The assignee: It is certainly a most extraordinary bankruptcy. “I have every sympathy with the creditors, but the meeting must be placed on a proper basis,” said the assignee in adjourning the meeting.
