AVIATION MISHAPS
TWO CRASHES IN VICTORIA GIRL PASSENGER KILLED Sydney, June 10. After taking part in an aerial pageant at Taree five ’planes left for Sydney. Two arrived safely and one was forced down en route, but the other two returned to Taree because of heavy weather. Strong winds prevailed. Two crashes are reported from Victoria. The ’plane piloted by John Charleson, and carrying his sister as passenger, was wrecked at Smeaton. The girl was killed and her brother seriously Injured. Mrs. Hinkle was severely injured when a glider she piloted suddenly fell and overturned. NEW GUINEA AIR MAIL MISSING CREW SAFE Sydney, June 10. News has been received from Bulolo, New Guinea, that a native runner has arrived there with a report from the relief party stating that the missing airmen, Thomson and McMurtrie, are safe. They are expected to arrive at Wan within a few days. Apparently both are uninjured. [A message from New Guinea a few days ago reported the disappearance of the goldfields mail aeroplane, a search for which resulted in its discovery in dense bush in the vicinity of the Bulolo River, but there was anxiety as to the fate of the crew.]
