YESTERDAY’S WEATHER

DULL SKIES AND RAIN Dull and lowering skies with a bleak atmosphere characterised the city’s weather yesterday. Light rain fell in the morning, and there was an absence of wind.

For the 24 hours ended at midnight last night 28 points of rain was registered on the “Dominion’s” rain gauge. The weather was boisterous and wet at Auckland. The wind was light from the north-east in the morning and a fresh westerly in the afternoon. There were frequent heavy rain-showers ail day. The barometer registered 29.70 in the afternoon and was last evening rising rapidly. With a drizzle all day and a fresh to 'moderate south-west wind, conditions were the reverse of pleasant at Christchurch. The maximum temperature was 48 degrees. The barometer, which had been steady all day, took an upward turn, and last evening read 29.70. The wind had freshened and the clouds appeared to be lifting. The weather was dull and cold at Dunedin until late this afternoon, when rain set in. The wind was light from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer showed a falling tendency, last evening’s reading being 29.70.
