MANAGER APPOINTED The selection of Mr. R. J. Hobbs, of Christchurch, as manager of the New Zealand team for the Empire Games in Canada was made at a special meeting of the British Empire Games Committee last evening. Mr. Hobbs is very well known in sports circles in Christchurch and he is secretary of the. Canterbury Rowing Association. He is also manager of the British Traders’ Insurance Company, Christchurch. THE ROWING CREW TO TRAIN AT WANGANUI. The selected twelve oarsmen, from whom the ten to go to Canada will be selected, are assembling at Wanganui. Seven men passed through Wellington yesterday. They were L. Fountain, F. Brough, G. B. Johnson (Otago) ; C. F. J. Gilley, F. H. Thompson (Canterbury); G. C. Cooke (Wellington) and A. Ross (Auckland). The three Marlborough men, V. Olsson, C. Saunders and J. McDonald, arrived by the Tamahine last night and will go on by car to Wanganui, while the Hamilton quota, B. Sandos and E. Waters, will proceed direct to Wanganui from . Hamilton. While in Wanganui the oarsmen wiJI use the Union club’s shed as their headquarters. They will stay at Wanganui until June 29, when they leave for Auckland, from where they sail on July 1. Members of the New Zealand Rowing Council will visit Wanganui on June 21 for the purpose of inspecting the crew. The selected ten should be announced shortly afterwards.
