NATIONAL CONCERN

UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF AUCKLAND CONFERENCE Dominion Special Service. Auckland, June 10. Forty delegates attended a conference convened by the Auckland Hospital Board to-night to discuss a suggestion that the expenditure upon unemployment relief should be a charge upon the national exchequer, instead of upon the resources of the board. Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the board, presided. No opposition was voiced to the suggestions outlined by Mr. Wallace, and although several motions were put forward during the discussion to meet the position, -these were subsequently withdrawn, and the following resolution was carried unanimously:—

“That this conference of contributing authorities of the Auckland Hospital District affirms the principle that unemployment relief should be a charge upon the national exchequer, and the conference demands the’ Government to make a grant of £lO,OOO to the Auckland Hospital Board for the purpose of administering relief pending legislation being brought down in the House dealing with the problem.”
