LORDS’ AMENDMENTS

The House of Commons considered the House of Lords’ amendments to the Coal Bill, and disagreed with practically all, particularly the amendment seeking to strike out the district levy proposal, which was defeated by 250 votes to 220.
NEW LORD PRIVY SEAL MR. V. HARTSHORN London, June 4. The "Daily Telegraph” states that Mr. Vernon Hartshorn has been offered and has accepted the office of Lord Privy Seal in succession to Mr. J. H. Thomas.
[Mr. Hartshorn was PostmasterGeneral in the Labour Government of 1924.]
