The,vocal and instrumental judge. (Mr. J. Crossley-Clitheroo) announced that Miss E. Hansen (Palmerston North) had I won (he piano scholarship, with a total of 458 marks. Miss Hansen was a player will) very good technique, and a flue sense of musicianship, he said, although slio was not a showy player. Mr. Clithcroe, in a general criticism of the work of
competitors during the competitions, said that the piano-playing had been of the highest standard, and he must congratulate the district on having such excellent teachers. _ The judge of the fancy dancing (Miss Iris Montgomery) also had a word ol praise for the teachers. One of the greatest enemies to a high standard of dancing was the teacher who did not. know her job. Children danced naturally, and it they could not have a good teacher, it was better to have none at all. . ‘ You have some very good teachers in lalmerstou North. See you keep them, and do not let them go to other towns, ' she said.
