THE PRESIDENCY
COOLIDGE ENDS RUMOURS NOT CANDIDATE FOR THIRD TERM By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. New York, April 10. Ex-President Coolidge, writing in the latest issue of tho “Cosmopolitan Magazine,” has put an end to all suggestions and rumours that he might be a candidate for a third term in the Presidency or for a Senator’s post. “When I left Washington,” he says, “I left public office. It was an incomprehensible relief, and I have no intention of returning, to it. If I were in the Senate, it would not be agreeable to many of my colleagues, and with all my desires to be helpful, it would probably oftentimes be an embarrassment to the Administration. To have a former President in Washington exercising political power would result in all kinds of uncomfortable complications. Only the necessity of serving in some national crisis, so great as to subordinate all other considerations, would warrant it.” Mr. Coolidge continues: “Nor do I have any sympathy with those who are discussing again making me President. The service that I 'could give the people in that office I feel Is done.” Discussing Prohibition, Mr. Coolidge says: “Considering that people have differed most radically on the best method of regulating the sale of liquor for generations, it is not likely to be settled for a long time to come.” The ex-President concludes bls article with a discussion on the advisability of minding one's own business. VOTE FOR PROHIBITION ENFORCEMENT Washington, April 10. The Senate, without a word of debate, approved a 36-million dollar direct appropriation for Prohibition enforcement next year, the same figure that the House of Representatives set.
