TROTTING

WANGANUI ,EVENTS GOOD RACING EXPECTED REVIEW OF PROSPECTS (By “Overcheck.”) The Wanganui Club has again received very satisfactory acceptances lor the concluding day of its meeting, and with the first day’s form as a guide racegoers will be materially assisted m deciding what horses have the best prospects ot success. To-day’s programme is as follows .— IMPROVERS’ HANDICAP, of 100 SOVS. I 3.45 class. One mile and a ball. Bingen Crest .. scr Mount Morgan, scr Black Pip scr Short Story ... scr Cogent scr Teri Klngi ■■■■ scr Daphne Locanda ser Tiny Rose scr Juggler scr War Child .••• ser Lady Snips ... ser Von JLiability .... ser Myrtle Dillon .. 24 Mr. Guy scr Hula Maid .... Murchimos ... scr Capilano w Muriel Thorpe . ser Several new horses arc engaged in the Improvers’ Handicap, and this complicates matters to some extent. Capilano, who won the Innovation Handicap on Thursday, went 3.34 3-5, and is now handicapped on 3.40. Bingen Crest, who was third, some ten lengths hway, remains on 3.45, though he went 0.401-5 in the Innovation Handicap. Von went 3.40 2-5 at Manawatu when he ran second to Inverness and is entitled to respect. Huia Maid was third to Harold Logan and Lady Yvonne on Thursday, registering 3.36 2-5, and in the weaker class he is meeting to-day is likely to be one of the favourites. She, Bingen Crest, and Capilano may do best. BOROUGH HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; 3.50 class. One mile and a half. Coronovo .... scr .Toy Ride scr , Finorn scr Blue and Gold, scr Nelson’s Ockley Wood .. 84 Request scr Laurier 108 Octachord .... scr Peter Eyre .... 108 In the Borough Handicap Blue. Gold has been penalised 48yds. for winning the first day by half a. length from Joy Ride, who still remains on a 3.50 mark. Peter Eyre, too, has not been penalised. Laurier is a fresh horse and he may be the one to cause most trouble to Joy Ride and Blue and Gold. SUBURBAN HANDICAP, of 110 sovs.; 3.40 class. One mile and a half. Musical ser Lightfoot 12 Mount Logan . ser Lady Yvonne .. 24 Mr. Guy scr Bonniewah ~.. <»6 ' Baron Bingen., ser Itangialiau .... 18 Highland Derby ser The Suburban Handicap will no doubt find Highland Derby again in strong demand, notwithstanding his failure on .Thursday. . Lady Yvonne went 3.35 when she ran second to Harold Logan in the Eastbrook Handicap and has only gone back 12 yards. Bonniewah will find the present company more to her liking than that which she raced in on Thursday, and as she defeated Rangihatt by six lengths at Hawke’s Bay when they met on the same terms as they do to-day she should again head him off to-day. Bonniewah, Highland Derby and Lady Yvonne may share the stake money. LIVERPOOL HANDICAP, of 175 sovs.; 4.48 class. Two miles. Kevtnbrae .... scr Wakefield .... -t Richmond Lass scr Warrenorc ... -i Speed King ... scr AU Red ■•••• 36 Zealous scr Logan's Pride.. 48 Logan King .. 12 Hilltop ™ Great Author .. 24 Great Delight . loin the Liverpool Handicap Logan King is the only one of the placed horses in the Wanganui Cup that is being again ■produced, and as he has not been penalised he must be considered as having a good chance of success. All Red defeated Sir Guy at Hawke’s Bay when they were each on the limit, and the support accorded him on Thursday cannot be disregarded. Wakefield did not contest the Cup, and while I believe he has slipped a bit he should go a good race. Hilltop is preferred to Logan’s Price at a difference of 12 yards, while I cannot say that I like Great Dillon on the mark he is on. Possibly the finish will be fought out by All Red, Logan King and Great Author. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, ot 110 sovs.; 2.25 class. One mile. Tawa King .... scr Roldena 12 Black Pip scr Rita Thorpe .. 12 Matenga ser Electric Gold . 12 Musical ; scr Star of Hope .. 24 Short Story ... scr Fliton 36 Tiny Rose .... ser Good Lady .... 48 Wee Thorpe ... scr Item GO Pumaliaka ... scr In the Stewards’ Handicap form rather suggests Wee Thorpe, Rita Thorpe, Fliton and Item. Wee Thorpe was third to Rita Thorpe and Lightfoot on Thursday, and now comes in on 12 yards better terms. Fliton ran second to Highland Derby at Hawke’s Bay when conceding 48' yards. Item won the mile saddle race at Carterton on Boxing Day and was second to Bell Dial at a mile and a quarter. In her case the trouble will be to get a good opening. The publie may therefore decide in favour of Wee Thorpe and Rita Thorpe. BALLANCE HANDICAP, of 120 sovs.; 5.2 class. Two miles. Blue and Gold . ser Rangitero .... 72 Ockley Wood .. 36 Eva Retn 86 Bessie Bingen . 48 Olive Nelson .. 132 Brian Bingen .. 48 Miss Leda .... 144 Peter Eyre .... 48 In the Ballance Handicap the public may elect Bessie Bingen favourite, as they did on Thursday in the President’s Handicap, for she is a good trotter. Blue and Gold, if reserved for this race, will have the advantage of position and she may take a lot of catching. Brian Bingen has gone back only 12 yards, while Rangitero remains as he was. Peter Eyre itas apparently been let up 24 yards, ns ho was on 72 yards on Thursday, but just why this should be it is difficult to understand, as the others who failed are still as they were, and in Peter Eyre’s case he ran third on Thursday at a mile and a half. Bessie Bingen. Blue and Gold, and Peter Eyre may be supported in Hint order. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of 130 sovs.; 2.22 class. One mile. Billy Brent .... scr Gumdigger .... 12 Bonniewah ... scr Item 12 Fliton scr Warrenorc .... 24 Zealous scr Logan's Pride.. 24 Good Lady .... scr Native Hero ... 36 The meeting will bo hrougth to a close with the Farewell Handicap, in which most support may be accorded Item. Gumdigger and Fliton. I have already touched on the form of Item and Fliton. and so would just like to point out flint Gumdigger has raced most consistently this year, and at Carterton in December he defeated Lady Author over two miles when they each started from the same mark. Still. I hardly think he is as good as Item, who may be the actual favourite. HAWERA TROTTING CLUB Acceptances for the first day of the Hawern Club's meeting on April 19 and 21 close on Monday next, April 14, at 5.30 p.m.
