WAIKATO MEETING TO-DAY

SOME BIG FIELDS KEEN RACING ASSURED PROSPECTS REVIEWED Dominion Special Service. Auckland, April 11. Splendid fields will line up at Te Rapa to-morrow, and everything points to the Waikato meeting being a big success. At present the weather is uncertain, but the track should not be worse than a little dead, with a prospect of it being good. The following is the card:

be well supported In the first division of the Maiden Stakes Royal Visitor and Royal Finance, and in the second division Biddy Comet and Land Measure may be well backed. Master Roley and Glenstar should race well in the Frankton Hurdles. Among a lot of fancies tn the Juvenile Handicap will be Rafflight, Imammt, and Biddy's Boy. Chief Joy is an unlikely starter. Vertigern, Cortuax and Eager Hose are fancied for the Storey Memorial Cup with Sir Archie a chance if it rains. Te Hoia, Count Palatine, and Homhon read likely in the Linley Hack Handl<Pompeius, Tinakoa, and Sea Cob will be in demand for the Puketaha Highweight Handicap. The President’s Handicap is very open. Valuation, Prince Vai, and Gold Money are a brilliant trio that will be considered. In the Beerescourt Hack Handicap. Ruling Chief, Ruapatu, and Volimond may supply the favourite. WANGANUI-TARANAKI TEAMS LEAVING FOR AUCKLAND Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, April 11. W. Rayner will leave on Monday for Auckland with Ceremony and Pedestal. Both geldings are in good fettle. Lne former went half a mile the other day in a style which showed he has lost little of his old brilliancy, but how he will shape over a mile remains to be seen. T Webster will ride the son of Absurd and will also have the mount on Pedestal in the Eden Handicap. The lliespian gelding is all the better for his racing at Awapuni and should run well at Ellerslie. , , Mr L G Paul will also leave on Monday with Arisus. This two-year-old is better now than ever and if the going at Ellerslie suits him he will run well in the Champagne Stakes. Fernden is going along nicely and it taken south will give a good account of himself. If he makes the tnp fa e wiH be accompanied by Just an Idea, which gelding is hitting out well. Richfield will, it is understood, go north for the Easter Handicap and is leaving Hawera with Bright Glow, Paitonu and Silvermine on Monday. FEILDING ACCEPTANCES Acceptances for all first day events at the Feilding Jockey Club s Easter Jubilee meeting will be received up.till S.oO pm. on Monday. April 14, by the secrotary, Box 45. Feilding.

HORORATA MEETING TO-DAY PROSPECTS REVIEWED SOME NEW HORSES RIDERS’ ENGAGEMENTS Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, April 11. The Hororata Raeiug Club's annual meeting will be held to-morrow, the programme being comprised of six galloping and two trotting events. The weather does not promise to be fine, but in any case the going will be fast. The following is the programme:—

MAY BE WELL SUPPORTED. Appeal’s reeent form makes him a likely proposition for the Trial Plate, and his onlv trouble may come from Night Recital, a two-year-old half-brother by Night Raid to Gay Sonnet. Giggleswick will be in demand for the Sandown Hack Handicap, and if he leaves the mark favourably his pace should trouble the opposition. Sea Raid has not raced up to track form this season, otherwise her prospects look good. Solmuri, if not reserved for later in the day, will also attract support. In spite of the small field in the principal event, the Hororata Cup, there should be a close contest. Gay Sonnet is very well just now. and the distance will not trouble her. Malmsey has been doing pleasing work in spite of her ailments, but a hard track will not assist her. Aberfeldy, who will have the services of his usual pilot, I. Tilson, cannot be disregarded. Starshooter, however, appears to be the select of the field, and will probably be better supported than Gay Sonnet and Aberfeldy. Chickwhcat is capable of winning the Bangor Highweight Handicap, but there is always a doubt about him in a race. Gold Mint is as yet backward, and will be held safe by bis stable-mate. Aften Ten, who, however, may not be produced. Gala Day has made a good recovery from his recent accident, and' his pace should take him a long way. Troilus is a possibility, while if Solmuri is reserved he will command respect. Gala Day, Troilus, and Solmuri make the most appeal. Buoyant’s form at Timaru points to his prospects in the Brackendale Handicap, and Courtlike seems to be his most dangerous opponent. ' Sea Raid is to make her second appearance in the Racecourse Hill Hack Handicap, and will probably be a better favourite than Revision and Sapient. Three horses engaged in the Trial Plate at Hororata to-morrow will be making their first appearances in public. Retrieve is a two-year-old filly by Last Dart from Theda, dam of Great Star. Argyle is a four-year-old gelding by Royal Mac from Dolly Hamilton, and Greaves is a three-year-old gelding by Purple Spur from Cuirass. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. Some of the riding engagements at Hororata to-morrow are:— A. Eastwood: Starshooter, Miss Bradbury, Tripaway. and Argyle. I. Tilson: Weather Raid, Sea Raid, Aberfeldy, Gala Day. C. Hughes: Giggleswick, Courtlike. A. J. Peart: Gold Mint. L. Evans: After Ten. Retrieve. W. Scobie: Troilus. L. Woolford: Solmuri, Solgele, Revision. W. Pascoe; Appeal, Sapient. M. Cotton : Night Recital. 0. Emerson : Gay Sonnet. G. Humphreys: Taragona. J. W. Jennings: Chickwheat. D. Cotton: Buoyant. Mrs. J. Campbell has leased from the owner a three-year-old gelding by Royal Mac from an unnamed Antagonist marc, and he is at present in work at Riccarton. He is built on solid lines, and resembles his sire to a marked degree. The three-year-old filly Miss Bradbury, an acceptor at Hororata. will bo having her first race in New Zealand. She was held under lease as a two-year-old by a Rnndwiek trainer, and raced in Sydney a few times without success. On her return Io the Eldcrslic stud she was purchased by Mr. P. Delargey and entered j. B. Pearson’s stable. She is bred on speedy lines, being by Paper Money from the English marc Esther, and is a sister to 1.0. U.. a good winner in Queensland. Miss Bradbury has shown promise in her track essays, but will require some racing to be seen atjier best. Great Charter will be ridden in the Great Easter Handicap by T. Green.
