RUGBY REFEREES

BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association. was held last night, Mr. G. Bradley presiding. There was a large attendance of members. Mr. Bradley referred to the appointment of 1200 referees during the past season, and said that it was a matter to be proud of. A body that could make so many appointments must be a strong one. The number of cases when referees had “slipped up” the association was few. There had been a net gain of twenty-one members last year. At the end of last season approximately 120 members had been active. There were occasions when 95 referees had to be supplied, and this year it was expected that more would be needed, The chairman’s motion to adopt the report was seconded by Mr. A. C. Kitto, who congratulated the association on its fine showing last season. Air. J. Moffitt expresed pleasure at the general conduct of the association, aud Mr. A. W. Travers considered the large attendances at the meetings very satisfactory. Referring to the present method of classification of referees, Mr. Moffitt stated that he considered it wrong. He was honestly convinced that the best method to adopt was that of application. Six new members were nominated. On the motion of Mr. J. Scott it was decided that ordinary meetings of the association be held on the second and fourth Afondays of each month and that the intervening Afonday be devoted to the instruction class. Air. E. S. Hylton moved and it was agreed that all referees desirous of sitting for their senior ticket must make application in writing by Alay 31. The following officers were elected: — President. Air. J. Moffitt; secretary and treasurer. Mr. H. S. Leilb; honorary auditor. Air. A, W. O. Travers; vice-pre-sident. Air. D. Calcinai; vice-president to the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association. Air. A.
