“SO LONG, LETTY”
The second performance of “So Long Letty” was given by the Wellington Amateur Operatie and 'Theatrical Society at the Grand Opera House last night, to a fairly large and highly appreciative audience. From the opening scene to the final curtain the production went with a swing. It was carried out with confidence and skill, and. taken all through, the effort might well be claimed to represent a triumph for amateur energy. Among tlie principals was Miss Pauline Shotlander as Letty. and .Miss Amy Woodward as Grace, was outl standing. Vocally. Miss Shottamler was heard to best advantage in her “So Lung Lettv” duet with Mr. Douglas Stark, and in her scene. “Down Among Hie Sheltering Palms." Mrs. Woodward scored.:! distinct hit witli her ’'Here Come tlie Married Men." several recalls being demanded. The "Harry Miller'’ of Mr. 1,. E. Pope was Interpreted with much zest and preserved an undercurrent of mirth throughout the piece. .Mr. Stark was a capable “Tommy Robins.” and did well in the vocal work that came ills way. Miss Edna Mears made an attractive Spanish ward, and Miss Dorothy Mollenar id pustice to the role of the well-meaning aunt. Mr. J. Cooke was effective ns ‘“Phillip Brown.” The supporting work of the chorus, effects, of the ballet, and the excellently conducted orchestra. all contributed to the success of the piece.
